RESULTS
We got 2 Club Boats out for 3 short Single lap races for the first cup of the season.

The Wayfarer was helmed or crewed by Daniele or Dave as they swapped over.

The Solo helmed by me.

First race the Solo came in first on the water and on corrected time.

Second race the Wayfarer came in first on the water, and won by 8 seconds on corrected time.

So it was all down to the third race, where the Wayfarer was in it for the first half, then got caught in some wind shadow at the top of the lake.

Solo won, and the Series, for the Decoy Lake Shield.

Hope to see you next week, 10.00 ish; on the water for 10.50; race start 11.00.

Steve

We start sailing back on Decoy Lake every Sunday in the winter months from Sunday 5th October 2025 until the end of March 2026.

We have plenty of club boats available for new members – a great place to learn to sail.

If you are interested in joining us for the start of the season, please contact Steve T (above) for more information.

May 13th 2024

Hi all. Thanks to all those who helped out with compound clearing and boat jumble.
We made £140 profit, which was less than last time, but we did not have the big ticket items we had then.
At least it has cleared the Clubhouse a bit.
Had someone possibly interested in the yacht sails, but did not contact me afterwards, so I will try one on eBay and see how it goes.
We have also sold the Laser so that is £450 to club funds.
The second laser has been fixed and is on the beach at Shaldon ready to sail for Shaldon SC club members. I will try to sell this in September after the Shaldon Regatta, but this will make a lot less than the other.

Whilst the external roof is fixed, the Kitchen ceiling is practically collapsed, and I’m trying to borrow some acrow props. If I can source some I might ask for some help for a “fix the inside of the clubhouse” working party which could even include some paint and curtains!

Thanks all, and enjoy your sailing!

Friday 19th April 2024

Hello all, some of you might not be aware that the clubhouse roof is now fixed and the Clubhouse gradually drying out.
Unfortunately we had a tree down on top of the compound fence on Easter Friday. It’s all been chain sawed and moved, but there has been some damage to the fence.

I’m planning to do 1 day only next week on either Wednesday Thursday or Friday (24,25,26th) to:
Do some fence repairs.
Move the last of the old roof to the tip.
Sort through items to take to the boat jumble.
Could do with a help if anyone has some time free.

I’m just waiting for confirmation that we have a car space at the Boat Jumble at the Racecourse on May 4th (Star Wars Day!)
If so I could maybe do with one extra person to man the stall on the day. Turn up around 10 and It usually winds up mid-afternoon.

ALL IF YOU HAVE ANY POSSESSIONS LEFT IN THE CLUBHOUSE PLEASE ENSURE THEY HAVE A LABEL WITH YOUR DETAILS ON OR THEY MAY END UP SOLD!

Cheers,
Steve

Jan 10th

Hello all and Happy New Year!

Just to let you all know, after a frustrating lack of sailing due to weather conditions, we held an impromptu meeting of available members last Sunday and decided to change sailing times to race start at 14.00.

It should at least be a bit warmer and we have often noticed that some more wind will develop later in the day.

We used to sail at this time some years ago.

Obviously we do not want to be packing up boats in the dark, so it will be important to arrive by 13.00 and be on the start line by 13.55 ready for the 5 minute warning and prompt start at 14.00

We are planning to trial this new start time for the rest of the season and then make a decision whether we continue for next year.

If anyone has any problems with this change, feel free to give me a ring.

Best regards,

Steve Thompson

Sept 26th 2023

We are planning to move boats back from Shaldon tomorrow Tuesday (10.00 a.m. at Decoy or later at Shaldon). We may also move some on Thursday afternoon, and I can also be available on Saturday if needed, just give me a ring.

We will try to do a short working party this Sunday, either before or after sailing depending on conditions. Mainly compound clearing. So we aim to start clearing at 10.00 a.m. or preparing for race start prompt at 10.30 with a working party after.

Nov 21st 2022

Hi all, looks like we have quite a few confirmed for our social and prize-giving at the Rydon Inn this Thursday starting at 7.00.
I’m confirming the numbers to Amy for food today, so if anyone else would like to come please let me know.
Please bring along £10 cash per head for the buffet.
Looking forward to it!

Race results below for the last 2 Sundays,

Sunday 13th November

1st Kordi
2nd Rufus
3rd Mike

Started in light winds but it picked up with gusts dotted about the lake. Kordi had a very good start in the laser with Rufus hanging on to him in the lightning. Next was Robbie in the topper but unfortunately he had to leave early so retired after 3 laps.  Mike sailed very well when he had the wind on the far side of the lake.  Rufus would have won on handicap but suffered gear failure on the last lap.

Sunday 20th November

1st Robbie in his Topper

2 boats started in light winds, then the expected front came in with heavy rain and strong wind for a short time. The race was shortened to allow rescue of the capsized Lightning. After everyone got soaked and the boats out of the water, the sun came out again!

October 23rd 2022

Hello all,

2 races held last Sunday with sun and light winds before the rain came in later.

The first race for the Decoy Lake Shield was closely fought between Kordi in a Laser (Rooster 8.1 rig) and Bernard in a Streaker.
After application of handicap the positions were:
Bernard (Streaker)
Kordi (Laser 8.1)
Robbie (Topper)
Rufus (Lightning)
Mike (Comet)

The second race for Autumn Series 1 was again close between the Laser and Streaker, with Kordi coming in first on the course and roughly 3 minutes ahead after application of handicap.
Positions were:
Kordi (Laser 8.1)
Bernard (Streaker)
Rufus (Lightning)
Robbie (Topper)
Mike (Comet)

Previous weeks saw some sail training, but we did get a Junior paddle-board Race in where the positions were:
Rufus
Kordi
We will probably run a few more of these throughout the season for a junior paddleboard cup.

Social and Prize Giving
We have had quite a few acceptances for our Social and Prize giving at the Rydon Inn Kingsteignton on 24th November at 7.00 p.m. There will be a buffet at £10 per head, so if anyone else would like to come please let me know so I can let Amy have final numbers for food.

Next Sunday, weather permitting, we will see if we can again get in 2 races starting from 10.30.

PS Shaldon bonfire and fireworks are early this year, this Saturday evening 29th October. Worth a visit!

“The Club supports access for new members across different backgrounds and there is a "pay as you go" membership option of £5 per session (which fee can be waived if needed).
This year we have a Wayfarer joining the fleet of Club Boats, so from memory we now have the following club boats available to be taken out by Club members or new members at only £5 a trial session:
Mirror
Enterprise
Solo
Lightning
Wayfarer

If you know anyone who may be interested in joining, please let us know.”

There will be a working party on 9th October at 10.30 a.m. subject to weather. We have the compound to clear, tidy up inside , check the storage of some of the club boats.
This will be followed by racing at 13.00 ish.

We will hold our AGM and Prize Giving on 16th October immediately after sailing at 13.00 ish.

Update Winter Dinghy Sailing starts on Decoy Lake again on Sunday 2nd October 2022, in the mean-time some members have moved to Shaldon Sailing Club for the Summer. We will have even more club boats available for new members - a great safe place to learn to sail. Please contact Steve T if you would like more information.
